Srinagar, Nov 23 (KNO): Under the influence of a feeble Western Disturbance, multiple locations across the Valley including Pir ki Gali, Gulmarg and others received light snowfall on Saturday, bringing down the mercury in Jammu and Kashmir parts. However, the minimum temperatures also witnessed an improvement after J&K’s summer capital, Srinagar recorded the coldest night of the season at -1.2 degree Celsius. As per the reports received by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the light snowfall was recorded in Gurez Valley, Gulmarg Phase-1, Pir Ki Gali and Sonamarg today. Simultaneously, the cloudy weather conditions prevailed across the plains including Srinagar throughout the day, which brought the mercury further down in the Valley today. As per the details, the night temperature improved in Srinagar and elsewhere as the mercury went up and settled at 2.5 degree Celsius while in Qazigund, the mercury settled at 0.8 degree. Pahalgam, a famous tourist destination, recorded 3.3 degree Celsius, Kupwara at 2.1 degree Celsius and Kokernag 2.4 degree Celsius. Gulmarg, a famous ski-resort, was the only station where the mercury settled below freezing point. Director meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad told KNO that the weather would remain generally cloudy while there is a possibility of light rain and light snow over higher reaches at isolated places till forenoon tomorrow. However, he said that the weather would remain generally dry from November 25 till 30th evening. He added that on December 01, the weather would remain generally cloudy with possibility of light rain and light snow over higher reaches at scattered to fairly widespread places during late night of November 30 to forenoon of December 01. Furthermore, he stated that the weather would remain generally dry from December 02 to December 05. In its advisory, the MeT has stated that there is a possibility of slight rise in minimum temperature during 23rd & 24th Nov and thereafter fall by 2-3 degree Celsius.
